Professor Layton and the Curious Village is a puzzle game published for the Nintendo DS game system.
The game follow the characters of Professor Hershal Layton and his assistant Luke through a series of puzzles to solve the mysteries of the elusive golden apple.

Through out the game various residents in the town of St. Mystrere will task the two heroes with a variety of puzzles to guide them through the story.

This tale begins with the Professor Layton and his associate Luke being called by the widowed Baroness Lady Dahlia. The deceased Baron Augustus Reinhold stated in his will that the one who cracks the code of the Golden Apple shall inherit his estate.

Many have tried, and all have met with failure which is why the Baroness has sought the help of the esteemed Professor.

During the initial meeting with the Lady Dahlia an explosion is heard which send her pet cat running. The first of the Professors tasks is to track down the wayward kitty and return her. However while seeking the erstwhile cat there is a murder in the Baronesses home. While initially the Professor attempts to look into this murder he is dissuaded by the local inspector.

As the heroes return to the search for the Golden Apple they interrupt a strange kidnapping that leaves the duo baffled. A servant of the Lady's house is being stuffed into a bag upon their arrival and they give to, however to no avail as the kidnapper escape with the servant into the town. They find a small gear wheel, their only evidence, after the kidnapper has escaped, yet things become even stranger when the servant has returned to the house in the morning.

Returning focus once more to the Golden Apple the pair find themselves in an abandoned amusement park where someone attempts to murder them by unhitching the Ferris wheel. They manage to escape with their lives, as well as find a key in a building busted open by the falling wheel.

They come to speak once more to the inspector, only to find out that he is secretly Laytons arch-nemesis
Don Paolo who is also seeking the Golden Apple.

The trail of the apple eventually leads to a creepy tower at the far edge of the town and some strange revelations about the Baron, the town, and the crimes that have happened throughout the game.
